India have been punished for keeping a slow over-rate in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. As a result, India have been docked two points in the ICC World Test Championship standings and also been fined 10% of their match fee. Chris Broad, part of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanctions on Rohit Sharma-captained India for being two overs short of the target. As per the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over a side fails to bowl in the allotted time. The points deduction adds to what was a dreadful day for India at SuperSport Park as they were dismissed for 131 runs with only Virat Kohli providing a fight with 76 runs.
