This was some collapse by Pakistan. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were cruising at one point after promising starts from openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq, and the Men in Green appeared destined for a total in the range of 300, even close to the 350 mark with a late burst.
Siraj’s dismissal of Babar in the 30th over, turned out to the turning point, and the Pakistani batters would lose the plot from thereon. Excellent marshalling of bowling resources by skipper Rohit as well, especially his decision to bring Jasprit Bumrah back into the attack at the opportune time that led to the dismissal of Rizwan and Shadab in quick succession. The former could have taken Pakistan to 270-280 had he stuck around.
India once again manage to restrict a former champion to less than 200 in three outings. But they can’t afford to celebrate yet. Pakistan can still pose a challenge if they get early wickets, as was the case in the Australia match in Chennai.
