India captain Rohit Sharma suffered a major injury scare ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against arch-rivals Pakistan after he was hit on the thumb during a training session on Friday. As per news agency ANI, Rohit was struck on the left thumb while batting in nets at the Cantiague Park. The India skipper quickly received medical attention after the incident and continued batting after the treatment.

The high-stakes India vs Pakistan match will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (9 June).
As per reports, the right-handed batter was practicing against Sri Lankan throwdown specialist Nuwan when the ball suddenly took off and hit him on the left thumb. Rohit was back to batting after receiving medical treatment but soon left the nets.
He was also hit on the right biceps during the opener against Ireland by a Josh Little delivery. In that game, the Indian batter scored 52 off 37 balls before retiring. He later said in the post-match ceremony that he was "just a little sore" .
The uneven pitches at the Nassau County stadium and Cantiague Park training ground have already raised a lot of eyebrows.
All the matches so far have been low-scoring games in New York with Canada’s 137/7 in their victory over Ireland being the highest score.
The criticism towards New York pitches forced ICC to release a statement in which they said the efforts are being made to “remedy the situation”

“The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches."
So far there’s no news from BCCI on the seriousness of the injury suffered by Rohit but in case he misses the Pakistan match then his deputy Hardik Pandya will be the captain of the side. Yashasvi Jaiswal can come in as an opener but Rohit is expected to play in the match.
