After having taken a four-fer in the first innings to dismiss Pakistan to 172, in the second innings, Kumble had become only the second bowler, and the first Indian to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings. The match was reduced to 49 overs due to a slow over-rate by Pakistan. India had won the toss and opted to bat, with Sachin Tendulkar (54*) and Ajay Jadeja (46) taking the Men in Blue to 216/7.
