Former cricketer Steve Harmison was not impressed with the way skipper Rohit Sharma led India during England’s second innings in the Test series opener in Hyderabad. Despite being 190 runs behind, England made a roaring comeback thanks to Ollie Pope’s 196-run knock in the second innings. Hosts India were asked to chase a target of 231 but then spinner Tom Hartley stepped up and bagged seven wickets to earn a memorable win for England. Team India were dismissed for 202 in the second innings. “Rohit Sharma’s captaincy got caught wanting in that second innings,” Harmison told ESPNCricinfo. He highlighted Stokes’ ability to instill belief in the team even though the visitors were 190 runs behind after the first innings. “It’s an unbelievable win. I think there’s only one person who thought England could win and that was Ben Stokes. And he got 10 other people to believe as well. Not many would have given England a chance when they were 190 behind,” Harmison added. Heaping a lot of praise on Ollie Pope, who scored an impressive 196, Harmison expressed his delight over the batter. The former English pacer still believed that India remained favourites to win the series. He, along with Ben Foakes, added 112 runs for the sixth wicket and this is where England pushed ahead. Pope continued with his brilliantly approach and stitched two more crucial partnerships with Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley worth 64 and 80 respectively. This defeat has left a lot to think for the hosts as they move across to Visakhapatnam for the second Test match. The second Test is scheduled to start from February 2. Team India will be without Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul in this match due to injury issues. It will certainly be a big blow to India who desperately aim for a win now to script a comeback in the five-match Test series against England.
