India vs England preview, T20 World Cup 2024 2nd semi-final: All eyes will be on the weather in Guyana as Rohit Sharma-led India take on Jos Buttler’s England in the second semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Thursday.
Threat of rain in Guyana looms large in Guyana and should the match be washed out, then India will go through to the final on the basis of their higher position in the Super 8 stage, will go through to the final. In the first semi-final on Wednesday night, South Africa thumped Afghanistan by nine wickets in Trinidad to qualify for their first-ever T20 World Cup final.
India are yet to lose a game in this tournament. In the group stage, the Men in Blue beat Ireland, Pakistan and USA but their final group stage match against Canada in Florida was washed out due to rain. In the Super 8 stage, India thumped Afghanistan and Bangladesh by 47 and 50 runs respectively. Rohit Sharma and Co needed a win against Australia to qualify for the semi-finals and they did exactly that, edging the 2021 champions by 24 runs in St Lucia.
England, on the other hand, got off to a rather frustrating start to their group stage campaign after their match against Scotland in Barbados was washed out, and their qualification hopes hit a fresh blow following a 36-run loss to Australia. However, the defending champions bounced back with victories over Oman and Namibia, and Australia’s win over Scotland all but secured England a place in the Super 8 stage.
England’s only loss in the Super 8 stage came against South Africa and qualified for the semi-finals with a 10-wicket win over co-hosts United States of America.
