England opening batter Ben Duckett had claimed that England’s Bazball approach should be credited for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive batting in the Rajkot Test. Duckett made the remarks ahead of Day 4 of the third Test.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has now rubbished the claims made by Duckett. The visiting English side suffered a 434-run loss in the third Test. Jaiswal was India’s star performer with the bat. The southpaw notched an unbeaten 214 off 236 deliveries, a knock that comprised 14 boundaries and 12 maximums. Jaiswal had produced a phenomenal double hundred in the second Test as well.

Going by Jaiswal’s blistering show, Duckett claimed that the youngster had learnt how to implement the attacking approach in Test cricket from his opponents. Hussain dissected the comments during a recent interaction with another ex-English cricketer Michael Atherton on Sky Sports.

According to Hussain, England’s Bazball strategy has nothing to do with Jaiswal’s batting. Instead, the other batters should learn from him as it would always help them better their technique.

“The comment on Jaiswal that he has learned from us, I am going to touch on that. He has not learned from you, he has learned from his upbringing and all the hard yards he has put in while growing up, he has learned from the IPL. If anything, I would look at him and learn from him,” Hussain explained.

Jaiswal is currently the leading run-scorer in the five-match Test series between India and England. He has aggregated a total of 545 runs in his six innings at an exceptional average of 109 and a strike-rate of over 80.

Hussain further spoke about England’s underwhelming show in the ongoing series. He reckons that the Ben Stokes-led unit should keep themselves open to criticism and feedback as it would aid in rectifying their mistakes.

“Whatever they are saying in public and in that dressing room, I hope they are going back into their room with self-introspection. Otherwise, it becomes a cult, doesn’t it? At times, Bazball has been described as a cult where you cannot criticise either within or externally. Even in this regime, there is room for learning and improving,” Hussain said.

Following back-to-back losses, England will look to turn the tables in the fourth Test, scheduled to be played in Ranchi from 23 February.
