After England were bowled out for 145 in their second innings on Day three, India were set a target of 192. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed Day four from the overnight score of 40/0, but India were restricted to 120/5 following the dismissal of Sarfaraz Khan. However, Jurel came into bat at No 7 and was involved in an unbeaten 72-run stand with Shubman Gill (52*), scoring 39 not out in the process.

Rohit, who scored a half-century, had forged an 84-run stand with Jaiswal for the first wicket. Rohit said that it has been a hard-fought series so far, and particularly picked out the youngsters’ impressive performances. “It’s been a very hard-fought series, so to come on the right side of it feels very good. A lot of challenges thrown at us but we responded and were quite composed. These (youngsters) guys want to be here, growing up in the domestic circuit, local club-cricket, and coming here,” Rohit had said at the post-match presentation.

Jurel, who had scored 90 in the first innings of the Ranchi Test, was adjudged Player of the Match. The win helped India take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. The fifth and final Test will be played in Dharamsala from 7 March.
