Despite the Bangladeshis putting up a much better fight with the bat, India ended yet another day in the first Test in Chennai firmly on top with the Rohit Sharma-led hosts six wickets away from going 1-0 up in the two-match series.
Resuming from their overnight score of 81/3, both Shubman Gill (119 not out) and Rishabh Pant (109) slamming tons and stitching a mammoth fourth-wicket partnership worth 167 to stretch their lead beyond Bangladesh’s reach.
The pair batted through the morning session, with India heading into lunch on 205/3, and would bring up their centuries after the interval. Pant, who made a triumphant return to Test cricket with a 124-ball century on comeback, was eventually dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz after chipping the ball back in the off-spinner’s direction.

KL Rahul chipped in with a quickfire 22 not out off 19 balls while Gill, who brought up his century in 161 deliveries, remained at the crease until Rohit declared the innings on 287/4 , resulting in a mammoth 515-run target for the visitors.
Bangladesh had been bundled out for a modest 149 in their first innings to concede a 227-run lead but were off to a much better start in their second essay on Friday, with the opening pair of Zakir Hasan (33) and Shadman Islam (35) stitching a 62-run opening stand.

More ShortsLater, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto later brought up his half-century and remained unbeaten until poor light for the umpires to call off play earlier than expected.
However, a three-wicket burst by veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who had gone wicketless in the first innings, along with Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal of Zakir resulted in Bangladesh finding themselves four-down at close of play.
With the ‘Moving Day’ of the Chennai Test coming to an end, we take a look at some of the records broken and milestones achieved, if any, along with other statistics:
— Rishabh Pant brought up his sixth Test hundred to equal MS Dhoni’s record for most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. Pant has achieved the feat in 58 innings compared to the former India captain’s 144 innings.
— Pant, incidentally, has scored more runs after 34 Tests than what legendary Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist had managed at a similar stage. Pant has scored 2,419 runs so far, 137 more than what ‘Gilly’ had managed after as many outings.
