INDIA THRASH BANGLADESH BY 60 RUNS!

Outstanding final over from Shivam Dube, the seam-bowling all-rounder striking twice in the final over of Bangladesh’s chase while conceding just three runs to make up for his lack of runs with the bat earlier in the day.

With that, India begin their trip to the United States and the Caribbean with a commanding 60-run victory over Bangladesh in their only practice game in New York!

OUT! Bumrah bounces Shakib out in the penultimate over of the Bangladesh chase, bowling a steep bouncer that cramps the senior all-rounder for room! Shakib tries uppercutting it over the keeper’s head, but can only tickle it to the keeper. Bumrah too joins the wicket-taker’ list today in his second and final over of the practice fixture. Meanwhile, fellow senior Mahmudullah also retires hurt.

Arshdeep returns for the death overs. Was turning out to be a tidy over from the left-arm pacer until Mahmudullah smashed a half volley towards the extra cover fence for a four in the penultimate delivery. Nine off Arshdeep’s third over. Siraj returns from the other end and concedes just four singles. Bangladesh need 73 more to win with just two overs left in their innings. Mahmudullah is batting on 40 and will be hoping to bring up his half-century in the remaining deliveries.

Shivam Dube makes up for Hardik Pandya’s 20-run over by conceding just four singles in his second over. Bangladesh have just four overs left in their chase and are yet to go past 100. Getting the Tigers to 140 from here will be something of a win for Shakib and Mahmudullah.

Massive over for the Tigers, with Pandya going for 20 runs in his third over after being brought back in the 15th. Mahmudullah collects the first six of the innings with a pick-up shot towards long leg off a full delivery from the all-rounder. That is followed by back-to-back fours, cutting a short-of-length ball behind point before getting a thick top-edge off an even shorter delivery that flies over the keeper and runs away to the fence. Shakib then helps himself to a boundary in the final ball, guiding the ball towards the midwicket fence to bring up the fifty partnership with Mahmudullah.

A much better over from Kuldeep after going for 11 in his first over, conceding just four in his second over. Shakib, meanwhile, collects his first boundary in the following over, smashing the ball over the bowler’s head off a full delivery from the left-arm finger spinner. Seven off Jadeja’s second over. Bangladesh are left needing 110 to win with six overs left.

Kuldeep Yadav introduced after the halfway stage, and concedes 11 in his first over, including a boundary to Mahmudullah that is a welcome sight for the struggling Tigers. Mahmudullah goes down on one knee and produces a reverse sweep behind square in the penultimate delivery. Bangladesh also finally go past the fifty mark in the over. Ravindra Jadeja brought into the attack in the following over, the senior all-rounder being the eighth bowler introduced by the Men in Blue today. Mahmudullah and Shakib collect a couple of singles each before a leg-bye is added in the final delivery.

Seam-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube is given the opportunity to showcase his wares with the ball in hand after failing to make much of an impact with the bat earlier today. Mahmudullah and Shakib collect a single each before the former collects a double off the final delivery, guiding the ball behind point. Drinks taken on the field as the Bangladeshi chase reaches the halfway chase, with the Tigers yet to cross 50 while losing half their side. A victory or a defeat, however, will count for little today as the two teams will be focused more on their ideal combination and getting a hang of the conditions than the result of a practice game.

OUT! And now it’s Pandya’s turn to get his name on the wickets column as opener Tanzid perishes while attempting to launch a short-of-length ball from the seam-bowling all-rounder over extra cover! FOUR! FOUR! Tanzid finally gives the Bangladeshi fans present at the venue a reason to smile, collecting back-to-back fours off Siraj at the start of the seventh over, targeting the extra cover fence on both occasions. Single collected off each of the remaining deliveries of the over.

Spin finally introduced in the final over of the powerplay with left-arm spinner Axar Patel replacing Siraj. Starts off with a seven-run over that includes three wides in the fourth delivery. Axar appeals for a caught-behind against Hridoy in the final delivery but the umpire shakes his head. Bangladesh crawl to 27 for three after six.

Hardik Pandya is introduced in the fifth over of the Bangladesh chase. Hridoy collects a couple of doubles in the first four balls of the over, swinging his bat in all four deliveries. FOUR! Hridoy manages to get the connection that he was looking for and whips a length delivery over midwicket. Gets involved in a big mix-up with Tanzid in the final delivery, with the latter narrowly escaping a run-out at the striker’s end.

It’s turning into a procession at the Nassau County International Stadium now as Tigers skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is the latest to depart, chipping the ball towards midwicket where Hardik Pandya times his jump perfectly to complete a fine catch. Shanto was hoping to pull a short-of-length ball for a boundary to try and alleviate some of the pressure that had been starting to build, but hardly got any timing on the shot, departing for a duck as a result. Towhid Hridoy is the new man at the crease and he gets off the mark with a single right away.

Jasprit Bumrah operates from the other end, and starts off with a beauty, one that straights along off before moving away, nearly kissing the outside edge of Litton’s bat. Litton collects the first boundary of the innings two balls later, clipping a full delivery angling into the pad towards the backward square leg fence for a four. Five off Bumrah’s over.

OUT! Arshdeep makes an instant impact, getting Soumya Sarkar caught-behind for a two-ball duck with a full delivery that nips away slightly. The southpaw was looking to drive this through the off side but instead nicks it to India keeper Rishabh Pant. Both Tanzid Hasan and new batter Litton Das open their accounts with a single each.

Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain concedes 10 in the penultimate over of the innings, which includes an inside-out slap over extra cover that ends up going all the way for a maximum! Shoriful Islam bowls the final over, conceding seven in the first five deliveries before having to leave the ground after copping an injury on his bowling hand. The left-arm pacer was left injured while trying to stop the ball off a powerful shot down the ground by Pandya. The India vice-captain had collected a boundary in the previous delivery, pulling a short-of-length ball towards the midwicket fence, and was looking to collect back-to-back boundaries. Soumya Sarkar bowls the final delivery, which goes for a dot as the ball stays low and goes under Pandya’s bat.

OUT! End of Suryakumar Yadav’s entertaining knock as he perishes while trying to smash Tanvir for a maximum down the ground. Didn’t quite middle it, hitting it off the toe end, resulting in a simple catch for Towhid Hridoy in front of the boundary rope. IND 159/5

OUT! Dube’s caught near the straight boundary while trying to smash Mahedi out of the park, with Mahmudullah grabbing a blinder while moving to his right. Dube had smashed the off-spinner for a maximum over long off at the start of the over and was hoping to collect a second for the over, but was undone by Mahmudullah’s brilliance. Shivam Dube joins SKY at the centre, and he’ll hope to make the most of the opportunity, given how stacked India’s middle-order is.

Excellent first over from Mahmudullah as he concedes just six runs while collecting the prized wicket of Rohit Sharma. Seam-bowling all-rounder Soumya Sarkar is off to an expensive start from the other end as he concedes 12 in his first over, with Pant hitting him for back-to-back boundaries in the last two deliveries of what was otherwise turning out to be a decent first over, whipping the ball towards fine leg on both occasions. Suryakumar Yadav joins Pant at the centre after Rohit’s dismissal, and has collected three singles in as many deliveries.

OUT! Samson doesn’t quite take off as an opener today, getting trapped leg-before by left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who is introduced from the other end. Samson’s late to bring his bat down to the ball that angles back in after pitching along middle, hitting him on the pad right in front of middle. Looked a bit high, but would’ve clipped the stumps at the very least. Samson gestures for a review, but there’s no DRS in the warm-up stage of the tournament. Good recovery for Shoriful, who had conceded six wides in four deliveries before the wicket. Rishabh Pant joins Rohit at the centre.

That should raise a few eyebrows heading into the tournament opener against Ireland four days from now.
