India vs Bangladesh, 2024 T20 World Cup, TOSS: Bangladesh win the toss, and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto opts to field. While India opt for an unchanged XI, Bangladesh decide to boost their batting order by bringing in Jaker Ali in place of pacer Taskin Ahmed.
India vs Bangladesh preview, 2024 T20 World Cup: Team India will look to make it two wins in two matches in the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup when they take on Bangladesh in a Group 1 contest in Antigua on Saturday. The Men in Blue, who were unbeaten in the group stage with three wins and one no-result, began their Super 8 campaign with a 47-run win over Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, began the Super 8 stage with a 28-run loss to Australia in a rain-shortened match in Antigua a couple of days back, and a victory over India will be paramount for the Tigers to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
All eyes will be on India’s top-order batting on Saturday. Virat Kohli, who once again opened with Rohit Sharma, got off to a start against Afghanistan but eventually got dismissed for 24 by Rashid Khan in the ninth over. Rohit Sharma, too, failed to get going with the bat, managing just eight runs including a boundary off Fazalhaq Farooqi, who eventually dismissed the India captain in the third over.
Suryakumar Yadav has time and again provided stability to India’s batting with some crucial knocks, and that was the case against Afghanistan too. SKY scored a 27-ball fifty, rescuing India from a shaky start to lead them to 181/8. Hardik Pandya (32) played a supporting role to SKY as they forged a 60-run stand.
Jasprit Bumrah (3/7) was the pick of the bowlers against Afghanistan and Bangladesh will have to be wary of the form he is in. In all likelihood, India will stick with the same bowling combination of three spinners against Bangladesh, which will mean Mohammed Siraj sits out another game.
However, it remains to be seen if Shivam Dube will be dropped from the playing XI in favour of Sanju Samson. Dube has hardly bowled in the tournament and has been far from impactful with the bat.
