Bangladesh were off to a relatively better start on the opening day of the Kanpur Test than they were in their first innings in Chennai.
Thanks to Mominul Haque’s unbeaten 40 along with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 31 and opener Shadman Islam’s 24, Bangladesh managed to cross the century mark without losing wickets in a heap.
Things did look a bit dicey initially when Bangladesh were reduced to 29/2, with Zakir Hasan departing for a 24-ball duck and his opening partner Shadman joining him in the pavilion shortly after after India won the toss and skipper Rohit Sharma opted to field.
However, a 51-run partnership between Mominul and skipper Shanto steadied the ship for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh were 107/3 after 35 overs, nine overs into the second session of Day 1, when play was stopped due to bad light. Eventually the dark clouds led to a spell of rain that just did not stop until play was called off shortly before 3 pm .
There was a forecast for rain on Friday and that indeed turned out to be the case on the opening day of the second Test.
But what about the remaining days? Here’s what Kanpur’s weather is expected to be like for the remainder of the match:
Will it rain in Kanpur in the remaining days of the first Test?
Unfortunately for cricket fans, thunderstorms are likely to make an appearance on the second day as well, meaning we will continue to have interruptions over the weekend and the Bangladesh innings might take longer than expected.

“Cloudy with a thunderstorm in parts of the area,” reads Kanpur’s weather forecast for Saturday on Accuweather, which has an 80 per cent chance of rain with a 48 per cent chance of thunderstorms.
However, the weather is expected to get better from thereon. Sunday’s forecast reads “a little morning rain; otherwise, mostly cloudy” with a 59 per cent chance of rain and a 14 per cent chance of thunderstorms.
And from a rainy weekend, the weather is expected to become sunny and pleasant — perfect for a game of cricket — on Monday and Tuesday with probability of rain as low as 3 and 1 per cent respectively. So both teams will have a chance to catch up and vie for a victory on these two days if Days 2 and 3 are curtailed as well.
