It is the first time they have managed the feat since they began touring Australia in 1947-48. In this series, India took a 1-0 lead by winning the first Test at Adelaide by 31 runs after which Australia came back with a 146-run win at Perth to level the series. India then won Boxing Day Test in Melbourne by 137 runs to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy and take 2-1 lead in the series. The historic series win sent the social media in a meltdown as congratulatory messages poured in for the winning side.
