India vs Australia: Rinku Singh has made the 'finisher' role his own, says ex-Australian cricketer

Former Australia opener Simon Katich was all praise for dashing India batter Rinku Singh, saying that the 26-year-old is one such batter who can get going from the word “go”. Rinku Singh has been impressive in the ongoing T20I series between India and Australia so far, having scored an unbeaten 22 off 14 balls and 31 off nine balls in Vizag and Thiruvananthapuram respectively, both in match-winning causes. “He (Rinku) has made it his own, particularly for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season, and now for India. Yes, there will be competition when the more experienced players come back into the team. He is doing everything right and it is such a specialist role,” Katich said on JioCinema during the preview show building upto the third T20I that will take place in Guwahati on Tuesday. IND vs AUS 2nd T20I:  Bishnoi’s powerplay spell, Rinku’s explosive cameo and other key takeaways Earlier this year, Rinku stole the limelight smashing five consecutive sixes for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during an IPL 2023 game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. “It’s not just an easy role that someone can fill in for when they have been playing at No.4 or 5. You need to get going from the word ‘go’ and get those 30 runs in eight or nine balls. He has been doing that consistently which is not an easy thing to do in that role. The way he is doing it is the most impressive part because he is reacting to the ball and not pre-meditating,” added Katich. Abhishek Nayar, another expert with JioCinema, said that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a fifty in the second T20I, is soon evolving into becoming one of the future stars in cricket. “He (Yashasvi) has been part of the T20 set-up from the last couple of series and has constantly done well for the team. Even in Test cricket, he is someone who is evolving into a future star. So, you expect him to be in the team. It is still a fair distance away with IPL in between. But the way he is playing now, he will surely be a frontrunner for that spot,” the former all-rounder said. India, currently leading the series 2-0, will look to seal the series when they face off against Australia in the third T20I in Guwahati on Tuesday.
