India fought hard to register their second win in the series but after coming at a sniffing distance of a defining victory, Australia’s tail delayed the much-awaited moment for Virat Kohli and Company. The hero of the day, yet again, was Pat Cummins, who this time, played a gritty knock with the bat. He scored a heroic half-century as Australia finished at 258 for eight at stumps on day four after being reduced to 176 for seven after tea. At end of play, he had scored an unbeaten 61 runs, facing 103 balls and hitting five fours as well as a six, while Nathan Lyon was batting on 6, as they put on 43 runs for the ninth wicket. As the Test strolls into the final day, we look at some key stats from Day 4: - Mayank Agarwal hit three sixes in his debut Test for India which is the joint most for an Indian player on Test debut alongside Hardik Pandya who did it against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2017. - Pat Cummins’ figures of 6 for 27 in second innings in this match is his best Test bowling figures, eclipsing his previous best of 6 for 79 against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2011. His figures in India’s second innings are now the fourth best by an Australia pacer at home against India in Tests. - This was the third occasion when India declared in both the innings of an overseas Test. The other two occasions were recorded - against Australia at Sydney in 2004 and against Bangladesh at Chittagong in 2007. - Rishabh Pant has now affected 19 dismissals in this series so far - the joint most for an Indian keeper in a Test series alongside Naren Tamhane (against Pakistan in 1954/55) and Syed Kirmani (against Pakistan in 1979/80). - Pat Cummins has now scored a fifty and taken a five-for in a same Test twice this year - the joint most for Australia in a calendar year alongside Hugh Trumble (1902) and Brett Lee (2008).
