Who will India face in the semi-final?

India will face England, who qualified for the knockouts with clinical victories over West Indies and USA in the Super 8s, having scraped through to the second round after facing the possibility of a first-round exit at one point.

The two teams were led by the same captains — England by Jos Buttler and India by Rohit Sharma — in the second semi-final of the 2022 edition in Australia.

Openers Buttler (80 not out) and Alex Hales (86 not out) had made a mockery of the target with an unbroken partnership worth 170 in 16 overs after Hardik Pandya’s knock of 63 off 33 balls helped the Men in Blue post 168/6 on the board.

When will India play?

It was already decided when and where India would play if they had qualified for the semi-finals — the second semi-final at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana on 27 June at 8 PM IST (10.30 am local time).

It did not matter whether India finished first or second in Group 1 in the Super 8s as far as their venue and date of the semi-final clash was concerned — it would only decide which team Rohit and Co were up against.

A note in the Match Conditions states: “If India qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in the second semi-final scheduled for Guyana on the 27 June 2024.”
