Why BCCI made changes to player regulations for Team India?

A report in Dainik Jagran says the reason BCCI brought in the policy changes was to bring in discipline within the side as some players were seen indulging in “negative” activities.

“A BCCI source said that it is important to bring discipline into the side and coach Gautam Gambhir wants to finish the prevalent star culture. It was learnt that a wicket-keeper travels with his personal chef while a star batter travels with a big staff including a nanny for his kids and security personnel,” the report said.

“There are some players who also travel with their personal staff. The BCCI source said that such practices have a negative impact on the team.”

India squad announcement for ICC Champions Trophy LIVE: Dinesh Karthik is highly impressed with Karun Nair's form but feels he may not get picked

“Karun Nair, it’s been unreal to see the form that you’ve been in. Even Mayank Agarwal has been in some really good form. But the beauty is, it’s coming at a stage when the Indian ODI setup is almost ready to go. There can’t be too many changes,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

“Yes, it’s very tempting to bring a Karun Nair into the setup, and I think he has earned the right to be part of the talks,” he added.

“But I don’t think he’ll make it to the Champions Trophy squad. But if he keeps going like this, why not? A form batter like that who plays fast and spin well, he’s a gun player, and I’m very happy for him,” said Karthik.

The BCCI had refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, resulting in the ICC moving their matches to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The Pakistan Cricket Board, however, is planning to host the opening ceremony in Pakistan a couple of days before the tournament gets underway, and that will require the presence of the captains of all eight teams.

In such a scenario, India skipper Rohit Sharma might end up visiting Pakistan for the first time since the 2008 Asia Cup.

The construction work was originally scheduled to be completed by 31 December. The Pakistan Cricket Board, however, finds itself in a race against time to get the job done before handing over the venues to ICC on 12 February.

India squad announcement for ICC Champions Trophy, England ODIs LIVE Updates: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Team India's squad announcement for the One-Day International series against England as well as the ICC Champions Trophy.

It’s been nearly a week since the BCCI unveiled India’s squad for the five-match T20I series against England and are expected to announce the remaining squads soon, possibly by Friday but not beyond the weekend.

India squads for England ODI series and Champions Trophy LIVE: It’s nearly been a week since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled Team India’s squad for the five-match T20I series against England that gets underway five days from now. Senior pacer Mohammed Shami was included in the squad while Sanju Samson was preferred over Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel was named vice-captain.

The Ajit Agarkar-led senior selection committee however, is yet to announce India’s squad for the ODI series against the same team as well as the ICC Champions Trophy. India play three One-Day Internationals against England after the T20Is which take place between 6-12 February while the Champions Trophy gets underway on 19 February, with the Men in Blue playing their opening game a day later.

Who will captain India in the England ODIs and Champions Trophy?

Despite being under fire for barely scoring runs in recent Test assignments, Rohit Sharma remains India’s skipper in the Test and ODI formats and given he’s a white-ball legend in every sense of the word, there are little doubts over his place in the 50-over team. Same goes for Virat Kohli who, along with ‘The Hitman’ and Ravindra Jadeja, had announced his retirement from Twenty20 Internationals last year.

Rohit therefore will lead India in the ODI series against England as well as the subsequent ICC Champions Trophy, and will be hoping to make up for the horror show in Tests as captain, where he suffered a 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand and lost the five-Test series against Australia 1-3, with some white-ball success.

Nothing will heal the wounds for the Men in Blue and their fans like a second ICC title in as many years.

When will the BCCI announce India’s squad for the England ODIs and Champions Trophy?

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had recently stated that the squads for the ODI series against England as well as the ICC Champions Trophy are likely to be announced over the weekend, i.e. 18 or 19 January. That will be a week after the 12 January deadline set by the ICC for teams to announce their provisional squad for the upcoming mega event.
