India vs Zimbabwe 3rd T20 preview: Shubman Gill-led Team India will set their sights on taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe when the two teams face off in the third match on Wednesday. T20 World Cup champions India began with a 13-run loss to Zimbabwe in the first T20 in a low-scoring affair, before bouncing back in the second T20 to thump the hosts by 100 runs.
It’s important to note that this Indian squad consists of several youngsters who are making a mark in international cricket and is vastly different from the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup recently. Abhishek Sharma, the 23-year-old who was impressive for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s IPL, starred in the second T20 with a 46-ball century to power India to 234/2. Ruturaj Gaikwad (77*) and Rinku Singh (48*) also stepped up with crucial contributions before the bowlers led by Avesh Khan (3/15) and Mukesh Kumar (3/37) rattled out Zimbabwe for 134 in 18.4 overs.
The likes of Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube have arrived for the remainder of the series and Samson and Jaiswal, especially, will be hoping to get some game time in this series after failing to play a single match at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe will look to improve in terms of their bowling. The likes of Wellington Masakadza and Luke Jongwe were expensive and will be wary of the on-form Indian top-order.
