New Zealand were bowled out for 235, their lowest total so far in Test series against India, despite half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Will Young as Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar headlined a disciplined bowling performance by the hosts on Day 1 of the third Test in Mumbai.
Mitchell and Young scored 82 and 71 respectively and added 87 for the fourth wicket to help the Black Caps cross 200 once again. They might have even gone past 300 on a hot and humid opening day had it not been for the spin pair of Jadeja and Sundar, who shared nine wickets between them.
While left-arm finger spinner Jadeja led the way with a haul of 5/65, collecting his 14th Test five-for along the way, off-spinner Sundar, who had collected 10 wickets in the Pune Test including 7/59 in the first innings, registered figures of 4/81.

More ShortsBoth teams made change to their lineups for the third and final Test. New Zealand brought Matt Henry back in place of Tim Southee, leg-spinner Ish Sodhi replaced Mitchell Santner, who had starred in the Kiwis’ series-clinching victory in Pune with a 13-wicket haul (7/53 and 6/104).
India, meanwhile, made just one change with Mohammed Siraj replacing Jasprit Bumrah in the lineup after being benched in Pune. Skipper Rohit Sharma, however, clarified that Bumrah had not been rested ahead of the five-Test series against Australia, but was “unwell” heading into the Mumbai Test.
New Zealand had not won a Test on Indian soil in 36 years heading into the series. With an eight-wicket victory at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium followed by a 113-run thrashing in Pune, the Tom Latham-led Kiwis ended up making history by registering New Zealand’s first-ever Test series victory in India.
