Player of the Match: Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is the player of the match for an allround effort where he scored a century in the first innings and took a fifer in the second. He said at the presentation, “I was just looking to build partnerships with Rohit, we were in a difficult situation, look to back my strengths, play my shots, not try and be more conscious. Watch the ball and play the ball. I know about this wicket, if we bat first, it is always good to bat on, in the second half it starts spinning, when Rohit won the toss, we were thinking: this is all what we wanted, bat first bowl second. On this wicket you won’t get easy wickets, you have to work hard for it. You need to throw balls in good areas, you have to earn your wickets.”

India appeal for a caught behind on Tom Hartley

The ball drifts in from Ashwin, gets the extra bounce, Hartley gets forward to defend, beaten and it misses the glove and bat, flicks the left bicep and the sleeve, taken well by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. The keeper is not sure, Rohit Sharma takes the review regardless. It had flicked the sleeve. India lose all their reviews

England skipper follows Root not long after into the pavillion. Tossed up by Kuldeep on leg-stump, Stokes went for the sweep, played across it and missed it completely. The ball hits him flush on the front-pad and Hawkeye returned with three-reds. Stokes goes and so does a review for England.

Root walks for 7

Joe Root had come under fire for shot selection in the first innings. He’s not earned any fans after the second innings either. Tossed up by Jadeja, full on middle, Root leans forward to sweep and missed, the ball sneaks under the bat before hitting him just above the ankle. Umpire Joel Wilson’s finger goes up. England review. No bat involved, little spike on UltraEdge as bat had hit the ground. Hawkeye shows that it would be clipping the top of off-stump

Full length from Jadeja to Stokes, just outside off, it keeps low as England skipper tried to defend, turned past the inside edge and struck him low on the front-pad. India review for leg before. Umpire is unmoved. On video assessment it is clear that the impact is outside off. India lose a review

Jadeja gets his second and Bairstow is plumb! Full on off-stump, Bairstow looks to sweep, his front-leg was a touch wide and he missed it completely. Bumrah gets the ball to nip back on the stumps and Crawley is struck leg before. The England opener misses the defence, hit on the back leg, in-line and it is going to hit the top of off stump. Duckett is run out

What a mix-up between Crawley and Duckett and the latter falls. That’s a gift for India. Duckett defends a length delivery from Bumrah to the right of mid-wicket, to Siraj’s throwing hand, runs and Crawley looked never interested in it. Duckett is halfway down when he is sent back, a powerful throw on the half-volley. Jurel collects it and breaks the stumps. Duckett had given up. He walks off. Replays show that had Jurel not reached in time, Duckett would have survived. Great stuff!

India declare for 430/4

News18

Rohit Sharma finally calls Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal back in. India stop short at 430/4, lead by 556 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal urged to go into the dressing room first by Sarfaraz. Beautiful to see. Jaiswal reluctantly agrees and walks off to hugs from teammates. From back spasms y’day to staggering hitting today once again. Hat-trick of sixes off Anderson the highlight of his innings.

For India then it is a lead of 556 runs and England have a massive, massive target to chase. India have four and a half sessions to get them out. Let’s see how things pan out

Lunch: India lead by 440 runs

Not surprisingly, the scoring rate has surged since the arrival of Sarfaraz Khan. India lead by 440 runs now. Overnight batters Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav the two wickets lost in the morning session. Shubman would be disappointed to not get a ton – even more by the manner of his departure. Jaiswal is back to bat for India and goes into the break at 149 not out. India well in command now and England would hope to get a draw from this fixture.

India vs England 3rd Test Day 4 LIVE

After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stellar century, it is on Shubman Gill to go on and get a big one. He’s on 65 and will be joined by Kuldeep Yadav when play gets underway soon. An opportunity for Gill to build on his second innings century from Visakhapatnam. There’s Sarfaraz Khan also waiting. England need a very good day to get back into this Test

India vs England 3rd Test Day 3 report: Yashasvi Jaiswal retired hurt after hitting an attacking century to extend India’s lead over England to 322 runs after the tourists suffered a batting collapse in the third Test on Day 3.

India reached 196/2 in the second innings at stumps in Rajkot with Shubman Gill (65) and nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav (three) batting at the close of play.

India have been reduced to 10 players to bat and bowl after R Ashwin departed the match late Friday due to a family emergency. Devdutt Padikkal came in as substitute fielder.

Jaiswal, struggling with his back, retired hurt on 104, and the next man Rajat Patidar was out for a duck from 10 balls.

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj led the bowling charge for India with figures of 4-84 to help bowl out England for 319 after the visitors collapsed from 299/5.

Skipper Rohit Sharma departed early on 19, but the left-handed Jaiswal stood strong to build the innings along with Gill before the opener changed gears.
