At the end of the day’s play, Akash Deep revealed that there were no early jitters and that he was helped by Bumrah’s suggestion to pull his length back.
“I wasn’t nervous,” Akash Deep told JioCinema. “Had spoken with my coaches, so I wasn’t tense ahead of the game. I don’t know how it happened (on taking three quick wickets), but I used to take every game as my last game and tried my best. Bumrah bhai advised me to drag the length back slightly (in international cricket), that’s exactly what I did.”

More ShortsIn only his second over in international cricket, Akash Deep rattled Crawley’s stumps but he had overstepped, resulting in a respite for the England opener.
Crawley’s relief, however, was short-lived as he was once again cleaned up by Akash Deep and this time on a legal delivery. Before removing Crawley, Akash Deep also dismissed Ollie Pope on a duck to claim three wickets in the first session of the day.
Talking about the no-ball, Akash Deep said that he “felt bad” about his mistake.
“I felt bad (on the no-ball), I was just hoping that the team doesn’t lose because of that (since Crawley was batting well). There was a bit of help early on, but the ball became soft and the wicket was slow as well. We just tried to be as tight as possible and bowl in the right areas.”
Akash Deep finished Day 1 with figures of 3/70 from 17 overs as England were 302/7 at Stumps with Joe Root unbeaten on 106.
