Bumrah completes five-for by removing Carey as India strike early on Day 2 of 1st Test against Australia

India captain Jasprit Bumrah struck off his first ball of the day to complete his five-for as India were off to an ideal start on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia in Perth. Bumrah, who is leading the Indian team in place of Rohit Sharma, who missed the opening game of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the birth of his son, got the key wicket of Alex Carey with a snorter that the wicketkeeper-batter could only get a nick to, resulting in a simple catch for his Indian counterpart Rishabh Pant.

The Indian pacer spearhead collected his 11th Test five-for as a result and is now 22 wickets away from completing the milestone of 200 Test wickets.

Carey was batting on 19 overnight and the hosts would have been hopeful of the 33-year-old converting his start into a big score and help Australia gain a valuable first innings lead after their disastrous start on the opening day.

As a result of Bumrah’s early strike, Australia found themselves eight down with just 70 on the board, trailing India by another 80 runs. KL Rahul, opening in this game in place of Rohit, struck three fours during his patient 26 before getting dismissed in a contentious manner.
