ICC Rankings: Shubman Gill edges closer to Babar Azam's No 1 spot in ODIs

In the latest ODI rankings released by the ICC on Wednesday, Shubman Gill, currently second, is just six rating points behind Babar Azam in first place.

ICC Rankings: Shubman Gill edges closer to Babar Azam's No 1 spot in ODIs

India opener Shubman Gill is closing in on Pakistan skipper Babar Azam in the ICC ODI rankings for batters. World Cup 2023: News | Schedule | Results | Points table In the latest rankings released by the ICC on Wednesday, Gill, currently second, is just six rating points behind Babar in first place. Babar leads the charts with 829 rating points, while Gill has 823 rating points. Quinton de Kock (769 points) is third whereas his South Africa teammate Heinrich Klaasen (756) is fourth. David Warner and Virat Kohli (Both 747 points) are joint fifth, while Rohit Sharma (725) is the other Indian in the top 10, in eighth place.

Gill had missed India’s first two ODI World Cup games against Australia and Afghanistan due to dengue, but has played the three games since, scoring a half-century against Bangladesh. Babar, meanwhile, has scored two fifties in the World Cup, while aggregating 157 runs from five matches. In bowlers’ rankings, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood (670 points) maintains first place and is followed by Mohammed Siraj (668) in second. Keshav Maharaj (656), Rashid Khan (654) and Trent Boult (653) complete the top five. In the all-rounder’s rankings, South Africa’s Marco Jansen made the climb to join 11th place, sharing the spot with Scotland’s Michael Leask (Both on 208 points).
