Champions Trophy 2025, ICC Meeting LIVE Updates: The International Cricket Council (ICC) will reportedly hold a board meeting on Thursday (5 December) as the fate of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan early next year, continues to hang by a thread.
This will be the first time since Jay Shah took over as ICC chairman on 1 December that the ICC will convene a board meeting. The ICC had earlier convened a board meeting on 29 November to discuss the Champions Trophy, but that meeting reportedly lasted less than 15 minutes without anything conclusive.
In November, the BCCI had said that India would not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year due to security concerns. Pakistan, initially adamant about a hybrid model, have reportedly agreed to accepting the model but on certain conditions. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants the BCCI to accept a “fusion formula” or the “partnership formula” under which Pakistan will play all of their matches at neutral venues in future ICC tournaments. The BCCI, however, has reportedly rejected this request.
While some reports have suggested that Thursday’s meeting will only be something like an introductory session, ESPNCricinfo has reported that a final decision on the schedule of the eight-team tournament could be taken on Thursday.
While Pakistan last travelled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup late last year, India have not travelled to Pakistan in 16 years. The Indian cricket team’s last trip to Pakistan was in 2008 for the Asia Cup, where they lost to Sri Lanka in the final.
