Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Saturday requested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president to relieve him of political duties in order to focus on cricket commitments ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
“I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!”, Gambhir wrote on microblogging platform ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
The development comes with just days to go for the Lok Sabha elections, the candidates list for which the BJP is expected to release soon.
In November last year, Gambhir had left Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as mentor and joined his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the same role ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Gambhir had led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
