Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI tons: A look at other batting milestones set by former India skipper

Virat Kohli on Wednesday added another feather to his cap after he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI centuries. During the Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai, Kohli notched up his 50th ODI century, surpassing Tendulkar’s tally of 49 tons in the 50-over format. Kohli got to his century in 106 balls, and went onto score 117 runs before being dismissed by Tim Southee in the 44th over. Let’s look at some records that Kohli has achieved along the way: —During the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai, Kohli got to his 50th century in ODIs. By doing so, the 35-year-old broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Kohli is now the batter with most number of hundreds in ODIs. —During the ongoing World Cup, Virat Kohli broke another record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has now gone onto score 1000-plus runs in a calendar year for eight years, while Tendulkar had only done so in seven years. So far, Kohli has scored 1000-plus runs in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023 whereas Tendulkar did so in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2007. —Virat Kohli is the joint-fifth fastest batter to score 5000 runs in Tests, having taken 138 innings to do so.
