Skipper du Plessis was standing at the non-striker’s end during the 13th over of the RCB innings when Rajat Patidar drilled the ball down the ground off left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner’s bowling. Santner managed to get the tip of his finger on the ball before it crashed onto the stumps, eliciting an appeal for a run-out from the Super Kings.
Du Plessis, who just completed a 35-ball fifty in the previous over, was initially confident he had made grounded his bat at the non-striker’s end in time. The TV umpire, however, ruled it in favour of the fielding team after multiple replays besides checking for a deflection off Santner’s fingers on UltraEdge.

Du Plessis shook his head and appeared disgruntled with the decision before making the slow walk back to the dugout, as RCB lost their second wicket with 113 on the board. Du Plessis’ opening partner Virat Kohli had earlier been dismissed off Santner’s bowling, getting caught near long on by Daryl Mitchell to fall three short of a half-century.

More ShortsKohli ended up going past 3,000 runs at the Chinnaswamy in the process, becoming the first batter in IPL history to score that many runs at a single venue.
Powered by all-rounder Cameron Green’s explosive 38 not out off 17 balls, RCB would end up posting a challenging 218/5 on the board after CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad opted to field. They will need to defeat the defending champions by 18 or more runs if they are to qualify for the playoffs.
