Young India wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who made his international debut against England in the third Test, spoke about his first encounter with legendary captain MS Dhoni. Jurel revealed that he was in disbelief when he stood alongside the World Cup-winning India skipper. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the fourth Test, Jurel expressed his feelings about his first meeting with Dhoni during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. He described how he had to pinch himself to confirm the surreal experience of standing next to the Dhoni.
“My first interaction with him was in IPL 2021 which was my first season. At that time, I was pinching myself to see whether it is a dream or not. My dream is to meet Mahi bhai especially after the match after an international game,” Jurel said in the video.
“Whenever I have talked to him, I have always learned something new from him. So I hope that I get a chance to meet him during the fourth Test at Ranchi," he added.
Dhruv Jurel made his Test debut in Rajkot and looked solid with the bat in the first innings where he contributed with an important knock of 46. He was also impressive behind the stumps, and barring a few fumbles, the 23-year-old was quite dependable.
Jurel came to limelight in last year’s IPL where he played 13 matches for Rajasthan Royals. He scored 152 runs at an average of 21.71, along with a strike rate of 172.73. Jurel earned his maiden India call-up after impressing in first-class cricket. In 16 first-class matches, he has scored 836 runs at an impressive average of 46.44. He has notched up a century and five half-centuries in 20 innings, with his highest score being 249.
