Deepak Chahar has revealed that he missed the fifth T20I against Australia due to his father’s hospitalisation and it could delay his travel to South Africa as well. Chahar made a comeback for India in the fourth T20I against Australia but then missed the last match owing to a ‘medical emergency’ as disclosed by interim skipper Suryakumar Yadav. It’s still not clear if Chahar will be able to take part in India’s T20I series against South Africa.
Speaking about his sudden leave from Team India duties, Chahar shared that his father suffered a brain stroke and that he will not be able to leave for South Africa until his father’s condition stabilises.
“We got him to the hospital on time. Else, it could have been dangerous. His condition is better at the moment. People were asking, why I didn’t play the final T20I against Australia. For me, my father is very important. He made me the player I am. I cannot leave him in this condition and couldn’t go anywhere,” he told Sports Tak.
“That’s why I am staying with my father and once he is out of danger, I will start my journey to South Africa. I have talked to Rahul (Dravid) sir and the selectors. Right now, my father’s condition is better,” the seamer further said.

More ShortsSince Chahar’s availability is uncertain, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could well name a replacement, although, it has not yet been done. Despite facing injuries in the past, Chahar will be quite keen to be a part of the side as they build up to the T20 World Cup squad next year.
Chahar can be a key member of the Indian side as apart from being an excellent new ball bowler, he is also a decent batter lower down the order and can provide the all-round balance India so desires.
