Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans IPL 2024 toss report: Gujarat Titans (GT) won the toss and skipper Shubman Gill invited Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to bat in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.

The two sides meet for the first time since CSK’s thrilling victory to snatch the trophy off GT’s hands in last year’s final in Ahmedabad. Both teams have won their opening matches at home this season; while Chennai defeating southern rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in the season opener on Friday, Gujarat would pull off a thrilling victory over five-time champions Mumbai Indians after a late fightback in the second match of the Sunday double-header.

Both teams are being led by different captains this season. While opening batter Shubman Gill has taken over the reins of the Titans following Hardik Pandya’s high-profile departure to the Mumbai Indians, wicketkeeper-batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has assumed charge of the Super Kings after MS Dhoni decided to step down as captain on the eve of the season — doing so for the second time in three years.

While GT opted to retain the team that fought back from a near-hopeless position to beat MI by six runs, CSK have made one change to their lineup — replacing one Sri Lankan with another by bringing in pacer Matheesha Pathirana in place of spinner Maheesh Theekshana.

Captain speak:

Shubman Gill, GT: We will bowl first. That match was physical and mentally exhausting. Everyone is well rested and well settled with 10 teams playing. We get enough rest time between matches. It shows the character of the team, the way our bowlers bounced back against Mumbai. Playing with the same team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: We were looking to bowl first, wicket is hard and looks similar to the first game. It was a rusty start but we came back well. Everyone showed good intent throughout the innings. Our Malinga, Pathirana comes in for Theekshana.

Playing XI:

Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Sameer Rizvi, MS Dhoni(w), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman

Gujarat Titans: Wriddhiman Saha(w), Shubman Gill(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, David Miller, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson
