'Cricket won today': Abdul Razzaq reacts to India's defeat in World Cup final

Abdul Razzaq, former Pakistan cricketer, has stated that Australia’s win against India in the World Cup final was a victory for cricket. Razzaq said India were taking advantage of hosting the tournament at home but a “balance” is needed for both teams. Australia defeated India by six wickets in the World Cup final on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Before the much-anticipated final, there were reports that India had asked for a ‘slow’ pitch for the match. Eventually, it was a slow and spinning track that went against India who were asked to bat first. Indian innings was over on 240 and the chase was completed by Australia in 43 overs. “In real cricket won today. The host country was using the conditions to their advantage. Cricket showed that it favours the team which is brave. If India had won, I would have felt very bad because they used home conditions to their advantage. The pitches and the atmosphere should be fair. There should be balance for both teams. India tried to take advantage even in the final,” Razzaq said on Geo TV. The former cricketer added that India would have won the final had Virat Kohli hit a century. Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir was also part of the same panel and he also felt that the pitch for the final was not appropriate. “This didn’t look like a World Cup final wicket. It was a very strange pitch,” he said. Razzaq’s comments come after his remarks on Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan which led to a massive controversy. The former Pakistan all-rounder was later forced to tender an apology.
