Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2024 Match 49 TOSS: Punjab Kings win the toss, and skipper Sam Curran opts to field.
While PBKS retain the same XI, meaning Shikhar Dhawan remains confined to the sidelines after his shoulder injury, CSK bring in Shardul Thakur and the uncapped Richard Gleeson in place of Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande.
Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2024 Match 49 preview: Buoyed by their remarkable victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be aiming to keep the party going and keep their IPL 2024 playoff chances alive when they face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai on Wednesday.
The Kings rode on Jonny Bairstow’s 45-ball century to smash the world record for the highest successful chase in T20 history, chasing down the mammoth 261-run target with more than an over to spare. Though they still are a long way off from a top-four finish at the moment, the victory over the Knight Riders has ensured they remain in the reckoning, needing to win each of their remaining matches if they are to sneak into the playoffs.
Defending champions CSK, on the other hand, haven’t been as consistent as they were last season, finding themselves at the fourth spot on the points table with 10 points from nine outings. After suffering back-to-back defeats against Lucknow Super Giants both home and away, they bounced back with a clinical 78-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk and will be hoping to leapfrog LSG to the second spot with a victory over the fellow ‘Kings’ on Wednesday.
