One of the most frustrating things about the 2025 Champions Trophy has been the lack of clarity on the final venues and schedule. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, from 19 February 2025 to 9 March, but India’s refusal to visit their neighbours has put things in jeopardy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sighted security issues as the reason for not travelling to Pakistan, but it’s unimaginable to have an ICC tournament without the Indian cricket team and the revenue they bring.

PCB plans CAS move against BCCI

That’s the major reason the International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly trying to make the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ready for a Hybrid Model where India play their matches in a neutral venue, most likely in UAE. PCB, however, has said multiple times that they want to host the entire Champions Trophy and will boycott the tournament if the competition is moved out of Pakistan.

A report in the news agency IANS has meanwhile claimed that PCB is ready to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if issues are not solved soon. This clearly shows the non-negotiable stand of the Pakistan Cricket Board unlike 2023.

The IANS reports also stated ICC will “finalise and announce” the Champions Trophy 2025 schedule by the end of this week.

PCB: ‘No reason for India to not come to Pakistan’

In 2023 under Najam Sethi’s leadership, Pakistan agreed to a Hybrid Model for the Asia Cup, allowing India to play their matches in Sri Lanka, but under the new regime of Mohsin Naqvi, PCB has proven to be a tough negotiator, so far.

Naqvi on Monday also asked the BCCI to hold talks with PCB to discuss the issues and added that there’s no reason for India not to visit Pakistan.

“If India has any concerns about sending their team to Pakistan they must talk to us and we will remove them. I don’t think there is any reason for India not to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi said in Lahore.
