The International Cricket Council (ICC) finally announced the much-awaited schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy , which will be played in a hybrid model with Pakistan and Dubai hosting matches. There was uncertainty surrounding the tournament after India refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns . The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was initially reluctant on accepting a hybrid model, but later agreed to it on certain conditions.
As a result, global tournaments being played in India till 2027 will be played in a hybrid model, meaning that Pakistan won’t travel to India. At the 2025 Champions Trophy, India will play their matches in Dubai. India are in Group A along with arch-rivals Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh whereas Australia, England, South Africa and debutants Afghanistan are in Group B.
The first semi-final will take place in Dubai on 4 March whereas Lahore will host the second semi-final on 5 March. This means India will play the first semi-final irrespective of where they finish in the group if they qualify. The final, which has a reserve day, will be played in Lahore on 9 March. The final, however, will shift to Dubai if India qualify for the summit clash. Pakistan are the defending champions of the Champions Trophy, having beaten India in the final of the 2017 edition by 180 runs.
