ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Highlights: The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is set to get underway exactly one day from now with hosts and defending champions Pakistan facing New Zealand in the tournament opener at Karachi’s National Stadium on Wednesday. Pakistan had won the ‘Mini World Cup’ for the first time after defeating India in the final of the 2017 edition at The Oval in London, and will be hoping to make full use of the home advantage in order to win back-to-back trophies.
India had nearly won consecutive editions of the Champions Trophy eight years ago, and will be backing themselves to regain the silverware nearly three weeks from now. They had won the tournament for the first time in 2002 when they shared the trophy with hosts Sri Lanka after the final got washed out on consecutive days. More than a decade later, they would pull off a thrilling victory over hosts England in a rain-curtailed final at Edgbaston.
And over the course of two-and-a-half weeks, Rohit Sharma’s men – who face Bangladesh in their opening game on Thursday – will be aiming to make India the most successful team in Champions Trophy by winning a third title. Should they win this tournament, it will be their second triumph in an ICC event in as many years, having won the T20 World Cup last June.
