After multiple rain interruptions in the first session on Day 1 of the India-Australia third Test at The Gabba, Brisbane, the post-lunch session has been delayed due to rain. The weather forecast predicts more rain in Brisbane and there’s a strong possibility that we may not see any more action on Day 1 of the third Bord-Gavaskar Trophy Test match at The Gabba.
Australia were 28/0 from 13.2 overs after India opted to bowl when rain interrupted the play in the first session and Lunch was taken. The play has not resumed since then.
Brisbane weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday
AccuWeather.com has given a “Severe Thunderstorm Warning” for 14 December 2024 (Saturday) in Brisbane. The probability of precipitation at 2 PM local time stands at 71%, it’s the same for 3 PM local time. The chances of rain are reduced to 48% at 4 pm local time and rise back to 56% at 5 pm local time. As per the forecast, while it may continue to rain beyond 5 PM local time, the severity would reduce. However, this only indicates that play may not take place anymore on Day 1 or it will be interrupted again even if it resumes.
The weather forecast for Day 2 (15 December, Sunday) is much better, however, there are possibilities of rain interruptions. AccuWeather.com says that the probability of precipitation on Sunday is around 46% while the probability of thunderstorms is 9%. This means while rain may play spoilsport at times, there are fewer chances of the day being washed out.
This report was published at 1.50 pm local time in Brisbane.
India’s WTC final scenarios
Currently, India are third in the World Test Championship points table. A draw and two wins in the three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy should see Rohit Sharma and Co reach the final in 2025. In such a scenario, India will not mind settling for a draw at The Gabba in Brisbane but this will leave them with very little margin for error.
