Bengaluru weather live updates, 20 October (Sunday): New Zealand need just 107 runs to win the first Test against Team India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They had almost 22 overs to complete the chase on Day 4 but play was stopped early due to bad light and the Kiwis will now look to complete the task on Day 5 - 20 October (Sunday). The biggest threat to their chances of winning is rain. Day 1 of the first Test was washed out due to rain, Day 4 was halted for a while due to showers, and rain is expected to play spoilsport on Day 5.
In fact, as per accuweeather.com, there’s an 80% chance of rain on Day 5 in Bengaluru including a very high probability (48%) of thunderstorms. At around 9 AM, the chances of rain stand at 51% and stay around the same until evening 4 PM IST when it reduces to 39%. At 5 PM, the probability of a thunderstorm is just 33%, however, this might be too late and New Zealand will hope that some play is possible before 5 PM IST and they can clinch a win.
The interesting fact here is that the last time New Zealand defeated India in India in tests was in 1988 When they won by 136 runs at the Wankhede and the Kiwis will be desperate to bring an end to the agonizing 36-year wait. Their job was made easier when India were bowled out for just 462 in the second innings despite Sarfaraz Khan making a terrific 150 and Rishabh Pant smashing a valiant 99. India lost their last seven wickets for just 54 runs and went from 408/4 to 462 all-our with wickets falling like a pack of cards once Sarfaraz and Pant were dismissed.
Sarfaraz and Pant together scored 177 runs, got the runs quickly, and dominated the Kiwis bowling but things changed after the visitors got the new ball. Seven wickets fell after the new ball was taken as William O’Rourke and Matty Henry wreaked havoc. It did not make for a great sight as India will be treated with something similar in Australia.
