It's time for us to say goodbye...we will be back tomorrow

Will it rain tomorrow in Bengaluru? The bad news is that forecast predicts rain for tomorrow as well

Sunday’s forecast for the ‘Garden City’ reads “mostly cloudy with a thunderstorm”, according to Accuweather. With an 80 per cent chance of rain and a 48 per cent chance of thunderstorms, there is a possibility that the first Test between India and New Zealand might witness a second day getting washed out completely, this one resulting in both teams travelling to Pune with the series level at nil-all. And it's raining heavily now in Bengaluru....the outfield is not covered but the main square is

Rohit Sharma was arguing with the umpires over stopping the play due to bad light, but in all honestly, it was the right decision. It’s now raining heavily at the stadium and half of the crowd is gone from the stands. Any chances of play resuming today are over. There’s still one more day to go in this Test match.

India looked in complete control of the match till New Zealand took the new ball and it all changed from there

Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant put together 177 runs. Sarfaraz scored 150, and Pant was dismissed on 99, but it looked like India probably had done enough to rescue a draw only for the game to change dramatically after the Kiwis took the new ball in the 81st over. India lost seven wickets for 54 runs after the new ball was taken.

Another back-of-the-length ball from Henry. Mohammed Siraj tried to heave it to legside but Southee took a sharp catch at mid-on and India are all out for just 462. 22 overs remaining today and New Zealand need 107 to win.

New Zealand make merry with the new ball as India lose three big wickets

We just had a crash course on what the new ball can do. New Zealand bowlers were struggling before the new ball. They were poor even after taking the new ball but William O’Rourke’s disciplined bowling has changed the scenarios. Three wickets have fallen since the new ball was taken. Tim Southee was swinging the ball wide and after missing out a few times, Sarfaraz Khan finally connected but it was taken in covers. Rishabh Pant’s dismissal was probably the most heartbreaking. He was on 99 but the short ball from O’Rourke surprised his defence as an inside edge onto the stumps led to his dismissal on 99. O’Rourke dismissed KL Rahul as well with another back-of-the-length ball that took the outside edge.

Rishabh Pant plays a high rise, high reward and 'high failure' game

Did you know? Rishabh Pant has scored six Test centuries so far, but interestingly he has got out in the 90s seven times including today’s dismissal on 99. He also once got out on 89. That’s his game. Playing high-risk and attacking game, he gets rewarded more often than not but sometimes meets heartbreaks, like today.

The plan has worked for New Zealand. William O’Rourke called back into the attack and cleaned up Rishabh Pant on 99 with a short ball. Pant was surprised by the sudden rise and while Pant tried to control it, the ball hit the bottom of the bat and crashed into the stumps. Pant has now got out in the 90s on seven different occasions.

Rain stops India's charge in Bengaluru after Sarfaraz and Rishabh help hosts score 113 runs in the first session

“It (rain) has got heavier suddenly,” Saba Karim said on JioCinema.

We will have to wait for a while as it keeps raining in Bengaluru. India would not be happy, given that both Sarfaraz and Rishabh were doing so well. But the charge has been halted for now and if we keep losing overs, a draw looks like the most possible result.

Bengaluru weather live updates, 19 October (Saturday): Team India is 125 runs behind New Zealand and have seven wickets in hand in the first Test match being played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. On Day 4, Team India will be aiming to get into a lead as they fight to save the Test but the match is expected to be impacted by rain once again. There’s a 25% chance of rain on Day 4 - 19 October (Saturday).

The proceedings on Day 4 are expected to start at 9.15 AM IST. We need to remember that Day 1 of the ongoing Test was also washed out due to rain. Nonetheless, the match has progressed at a breakneck pace since then with New Zealand scoring 402 in reply to India’s first innings total of just 46.

Rachin Ravindra made 134, while Tim Southee struck a quick-fire 65.

In their second innings, Indian openers put up 72 before Yashasvi Jaiswal went back to the dugout after scoring 35, while the captain Rohit Sharma smashed 52. Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan then stitched a solid 136-run stand before Glenn Phillips got Virat Kohli out on the last ball of the day. Kohli edged the off-spin ball to the keeper as Day 3 came to an end.

New Zealand are on the top and all eyes will be on Sarfaraz Khan who is currently on 70 not out. With KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin still to come, India will hope to take a sizeable lead which will not only allow them to avoid defeat but script an unexpected win to move closer to the World Test Championship final.

Meanwhile, the news from the centre is that Rishabh Pant did the warm-up on Day 4 and is expected to bat. He did not keep wickets on Day 3 after getting hit with a ball on his knee, the same leg that was hurt in the car accident. However, with him taking the field on Saturday for warm-up, it’s expected that the flamboyant southpaw will be available to bat for India.
