The opening day of the Test series between India and New Zealand was expected to be affected by rain, and that indeed turned out to be the case as Wednesday proved to be a complete washout . It’s the second consecutive Test match involving the Indian team that has been affected by rain.

The second and final Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur had witnessed nearly three days being lost to incessant rain as well as a wet outfield and bad light. And the Kanpur Test would have ended in a draw, which would have resulted in a 1-0 series win for the hosts instead of a sweep, had it not been for Rohit Sharma and Co’s explosive batting in the last two days of the match along with bowling the Tigers out twice in successive days.

It wasn’t just the opening day of the first of three Tests against the Black Caps that was affected by rain; India’s practice session that was scheduled to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium starting 9.30 am was also called off due to heavy showers that have led to waterlogging across the ‘Garden City’.

Will Day 2 of the first Test also be affected by rain, and possibly end in a washout? Here’s what we know:

What will the weather in Bengaluru be like on Day 2 of the first IND vs NZ Test?

If Wednesday’s weather in Bengaluru was a dampener for the players as well as fans, Thursday isn’t likely to be any better.

Wednesday’s forecast for the Karnataka capital had a 41 per cent chance of rain along with a 25 per cent chance of thunderstorms.

The improvement in weather for the following day is miniscule, with Thursday’s forecast predicting a 40 per cent chance of rain and a 24 per cent chance of thunderstorms, according to Accuweather.

The forecast further expects “considerable cloudiness and warmer with a thunderstorm in spots”.

The slight improvement could mean that the two captains might head out for the toss and we might witness a session’s worth of cricketing action at best. But not much beyond that.
