India vs New Zealand, 1st Test in Bengaluru, Day 1 Highlights: Day 1 of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru was washed out due to persistent rain, without the toss taking place. The toss was scheduled to take place at 9 am IST, with the match scheduled to get underway at 9.30 am. However, the covers were firmly in place for a majority of the day. At around 2.10 pm, the rain had stopped but 20 minutes later, it started drizzling again.
The weather forecast for Thursday does not look promising either, but should the match start on time, it will begin 15 minutes before the scheduled start, at 9.15 am. A total of 98 overs will be bowled if there is not rain interruption on Thursday.
India vs New Zealand, 1st Test in Bengaluru preview: After swatting Bangladesh aside with ease and completing a 2-0 sweep against the Tigers, Team India turn their focus to New Zealand with the first of three Tests getting underway at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
India will be hoping eyeing a second consecutive sweep in the three-match series, in which the second and third Tests take place in Pune and Mumbai respectively. Rohit Sharma and Co face an even bigger challenge in an away Test series in Australia starting in November, and will be hoping to extract as many points from the New Zealand Tests as possible.
For the Black Caps, who will be led by senior opener Tom Latham after pacer Tim Southee stepped down following a 0-2 series sweep in Sri Lanka, the Test series against India will be crucial to their chances of sneaking into the top-two in the ICC World Test Championship standings and play the final for the second time in three editions.
The Bengaluru Test, however, faces the threat of rain on at least four out of five days, with the opening day expected to get washed out completely, meaning there is a good chance the two teams could travel to Pune with the series still level at 0-0.
