BCCI will not give any workload related instruction to IPL teams

The BCCI will not be giving any special instructions to players about workload management during the IPL 2024 which will be held just before the T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC event is scheduled to start on 1 June in West Indies and USA, with India beginning their campaign on 5 June against Ireland in New York. It has been reported that the IPL 2024 could run from 22 March to 26 May, leaving just a gap of nine days between the IPL final and the India vs Ireland match. The Indian cricket board, however, has decided against giving instructions about workload management to core group of Team India players, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday. BCCI has decided to take such a step as it feels any instruction related to workload management during the IPL will be unfair given the huge amount of money the franchises have invested in the players and the tournament. However, the IPL teams will be required to share fitness update of centrally contracted players with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Sports Science head Nitin Patel. “They are being paid highly and they can’t pick and choose games for franchises. But yes, for all those centrally contracted and targetted players (next lot), the franchise’s support staff will have to regularly provide fitness update to the NCA Sports Science head Nitin Patel,” a BCCI official told PTI. It has also been reported that players of the team who fail to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2024 will be sent to New York in advance and cricketers who take part in the playoffs will join them after the cash-rich T20 league gets over.
