'BCCI invested in right place': Shahid Afridi on what has changed in Indian cricket over the years

The growth of Indian fast bowlers over the last decade has been well documented. The Indian team has a whole crop of pacers who can win matches in different conditions and as per former Pakistan batter and captain Shahid Afridi, one of the key reasons behind this change was the fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invested a lot in the grassroots. He also praised the BCCI for making Rahul Dravid incharge of youth cricket and nurturing them at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). “First Sourav Ganguly made so many changes during his captaincy and then the way MS Dhoni carried all the seniors with him. They (BCCI) invested in the right place. They improved their grassroots level cricket by giving the entire domestic system to a player like Rahul Dravid, who knows what the kids (domestic players) need to reach the top,” Afridi said as per GeoNews.

Afridi went on to add that the board had worked hard and now they have started producing great talent. He suggested that India have the potential to field two teams at this point. He also said that India had strategic investments and that the public’s focus was now shifting towards bowling. “They invested at the right place and now the people of India are diverting their attention towards it (bowling). They built camps and the talent is coming,” Afridi added.
