In what comes as a pathbreaking development to enhance the domestic cricket circuit in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced prize money for Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament winners in every women’s and junior domestic cricket competitions.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced this development on micro-blogging platform ‘X’. He also announced that prize money will be given to the Player of the Match winner in Vijay Hazare trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
“We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme. Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men. This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit. A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind,” Shah wrote.

The Indian domestic cricket season is scheduled to begin in September with the Duleep Trophy. The Irani Cup will be held in October. The Ranji Trophy is scheduled to begin on 11 October, whereas Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will commence on 23 November. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be held from 21 December.
In 2023, the BCCI had announced an increased prize money for domestic tournaments. The winners of Ranji Trophy received a whopping amount of Rs 5 crore.
The winners of Irani Cup were said to receive Rs 50 lakh, instead of Rs 25 lakh, an amount which is given to the runners-up. In both Duleep Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, the winners receive Rs 1 crore, whereas the runners-up get Rs 50 lakh.
