The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will host its annual awards ceremony on January 23. The glittery event will be held in Hyderabad this year. Emerging opener Shubman Gill has been nominated as the best men’s cricketer of the year and will receive the Polly Umrigar Award for his stellar performance across formats in 2023. Kohli has already bagged this award five times during his illustrious career. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan and Shams Mulani of the Mumbai squad are set to be recognised after becoming the highest run-getter and wicket-taker respectively in the previous season of the Ranji Trophy. The last time when the BCCI hosted the annual awards ceremony in 2020, ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was given the Polly Umrigar award in the men’s category, while in the women’s category leg-spinner Poonam Yadav received the accolade.
