In a bizarre turn of events, the Australian cricket team was denied a run out after umpire Gerard Abood ruled that they had not appealed. The strange incident happened during the second T20I against the West Indies, at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
In the 19th over of the West Indies innings, Alzarri Joseph played a drive and ran. Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh collected the ball and threw it to Spencer Johnson who dislodged the bails well before Joseph could manage to make his way into the crease. The Aussie cricketers started celebrating after the replay, shown on the giant screen, clearly suggested that Joseph was run out.
Umpire Abood was heard saying, presumably to the TV umpire, “No appeal.” The Aussies gathered around Abood, who said: “Stop, stop, stop, there was no appeal.” The on-field umpire stuck to his view.
No appeal = no run out?

“I think the umpire deemed that no one had appealed, and there were a few of us that thought we did appeal. To be fair I understand, it wasn’t like it was a screaming appeal from everyone but probably one of those things where you expect it to go up to the third umpire, we thought it was pretty close and there were a few of us putting our hands up,” Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said after the game.

So it was just confusing, Thank God it didn’t cost the game. Just one of those weird rules in cricket, we should probably just be a bit louder with our appeals," he added.
The incident didn’t have any bearing on the Australian players as they claimed a convincing win against the Caribbean side to seal the T20I series. Chasing a total of 242, the visitors fell short by 34 runs in the penultimate fixture. Earlier, in the T20I series opener, the Aussies had clinched an emphatic 11-run victory. The third and final T20I of the series is scheduled to be played at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday.
