Australia put up a dominant performance against Netherlands in their 2023 World Cup match in Delhi on Wednesday, thereby consolidating their fourth place in the standings. After having elected to bat, Australia did lose Mitchell Marsh early, but David Warner and Glenn Maxwell, both of whom scored centuries, helped them get to 399/8 from 50 overs. World Cup 2023: News | Schedule | Results | Points table Not to forget, even Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) did their bit to help the Aussies post a strong total. In reply, the Dutch were no match for the five-time champions. All they could manage were 90 runs before being bundled out in the 21st over. Opener Vikramjeet Singh (26) was their top-scorer, and as far as the Dutch batting scorecard was concerned, there was nothing much the batters could produce as they succumbed to big-target pressure.
The win would have certainly given Australia a morale-booster ahead of games against New Zealand and England in the coming days. But, what were some key moments from the win? Let’s find out: David Warner smashes second consecutive ton Once a batter like David Warner really gets going, it’s going to be difficult to stop him. For the Netherlands against Warner, it was one of those days. Warner did lose his opening partner Mitchell Marsh in the fourth over, but he was in no mood to give up. The fact that his next two batting partners Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne supported him also helped his case. Warner was involved in a 132-run stand with Smith for the second wicket and followed it up with an 84-run partnership with Labuschagne. Simply put, it was Warner’s knock that set the platform for Australia to put up a big total. Warner eventually got to his century in 91 balls, slamming 11 fours and three sixes. For Warner, it was not just his second consecutive ton after a knock of 163 against Pakistan, but sending the upcoming opposition teams a clear message that once he gets going, he will be unstoppable. Glenn Maxwell’s blazing ton If there was a “Century of the Tournament” award, that would undoubtedly go to Glenn Maxwell. This World Cup has witnessed centuries from several batters, but none better than Maxwell.

It was only a couple of weeks back when South Africa’s Aiden Markram amassed the fastest century in ODI World Cups when he scored a ton off 49 balls against Sri Lanka. However, thanks to the ever-changing dynamics of the limited-overs game, Maxwell batted with full freedom to get to his century off just 40 balls. And thus get to an ODI World Cup hundred in the fastest-ever time. Read: Maxwell's reverse switch hit mayhem gives extra wings to mighty Aussies Maxwell got to his fifty off just 26 balls and took merely half of those deliveries to get to his century. He hit nine fours and as many as eight sixes in his quickfire knock. Logan van Beek has something to smile about There wasn’t much for the Dutch to take away from this game, but pacer Logan van Beek did give them something to cheer about. While van Beek dismissed Marsh early on, he was more impactful in the latter half of the Australia innings. His next wicket came only in the 40th over when he saw off David Warner, but the focus quickly shifted from the two centurion batters to van Beek towards the fag end of the Aussie innings. In the third ball of the final over, van Beek delivered a wider delivery, only for Maxwell to mistime the shot after charging down the track and dispatching towards Sybrand Engelbrecht near the boundary rope. In the very next ball, van Beek got rid of Mitchell Starc, after the latter mistimed the slog only for Colin Ackermann to claim the catch. Logan van Beek was on a hat-trick following Starc’s dismissal, but a hat-trick was not meant to be. A night to forget for Bas de Leede Many in the Netherlands camp would have one person to blame for conceding too many runs — Bas de Leede. Not every day you see a bowler conceding over 100 runs in 10 overs in an ODI, but for Bas de Leede, it was a night to forget on Wednesday.
115 - Bas de Leede conceded 115 off his 10 overs in Netherlands' @cricketworldcup game against @CricketAus today, the most by any bowler in a single game in the history of the men's ODI format. Hapless.#AUSvNED pic.twitter.com/bSy7XNkFUT

Bas de Leede endured figures of 2/115 in 10 overs, becoming the bowler to concede the most runs in an ODI innings, after Mick Lewis’ figures of 0/113 against South Africa in 2006. De Leede was the victim of brutal attacks with the bat from David Warner, Steve Smith, Marbus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell. In the 49th over, Maxwell took advantage of de Leede, amassing two fours and as many sixes as the former approached his hundred. Adam Zampa picks four Adam Zampa and four-fers in ODIs are like a match made in heaven. He’s done it several times before, he did it once again on Wednesday, and it will certainly not be the last time we see him pick four wickets in a match. This time against the Dutch, though, Zampa was economically brilliant, finishing with figures of 4/8 off just three overs. That is at an economy of less than three runs.

Zampa collected his four wickets in two separate overs. On both occasions, Zampa’s wickets came on consecutive deliveries. In the 19th over, while he got rid of van Beek with a full delivery, with the latter edging towards Josh Inglis, he went onto trap Roelef van der Merwe LBW the very next ball. Zampa recreated his heroics in the 21st over, to seal the match. Aryan Dutt was struck LBW in the fifth ball of the over, and just moments later, the next ball, Paul van Meekeren was stumped by Josh Inglis, after van Meekeren went for the sweep shot but missed. In the end, it was a nightmare of sorts for the Netherlands that we would prefer to move on from.
