Team India clinched the 2023 Asia Cup title with a dominant 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. This was India’s first Asia Cup title since 2018, and their eighth overall, as the Men in Blue stepped up preparations for the ODI World Cup that starts from 5 October. India were clinical with their display on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj (6/21) was the pick of the bowlers as the visitors bundled out the hosts for just 50 in just 15.2 overs. And India, in their reply, had Ishan Kishan (23*) and Shubman Gill (27*) forge an unbeaten stand to finish the chase in 6.1 overs. Siraj was adjudged Player of the Match, while Kuldeep Yadav was the Player of the Tournament with nine wickets. It was the end of a long wait when Team India players lifted the Asia Cup trophy, as it was their first mult-nation title since the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup. Earlier in 2018, India had also won the Nidahas Trophy involving Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
