Even when India were reeling at 144/6 on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh, no fans would have put their money on the visitors. Because India at home is a different beast, having not lost a Test series since 2012. But the most important factor that makes them such a formidable force at home is the presence of all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the team.
In the first Test at Chennai, Ashwin slammed his sixth ton, Jadeja made 86 as the duo put 199 together for the seventh wicket to bail India out. Later they picked up 11 wickets together as India won by 280 runs.

This wasn’t the first time Ashwin and Jadeja did something so crazy together as they have been the backbone of India’s envious home record in Tests and their best comes when they play together.
Sample this, India have lost just three out of 45 Tests at home when both Ashwin and Jadeja are playing. They have won 34 out of those 45 matches with Ashwin and Jadeja in the playing XI. To give more clarity, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh suffered six losses out of 34 Tests at home while playing together.

Even more impressive stat is the fact that in the 45 Tests that they have played together at home, Ashwin has taken 263 wickets and Jadeja has picked 218. That is 481 wickets, over 10 wickets per match. No wonder India are so successful when both are a part of the playing XI.

With Ashwin and Jadeja in their playing XI, India will now aim to beat Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur and also win the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand which should help them qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.
