Nathan Lyon recently spoke about the influence Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has had on his bowling. The Australian spinner, who has 496 wickets to his name in Test cricket, is considered to be one of the best off-spinners of the modern era alongside Ashwin. Talking about how Ashwin helped him become a better bowler , Lyon said that he has learned a lot from the Indian who has been “one of his biggest coaches”. “You look at Ashwin, he’s a world-class bowler and somebody I’ve watched closely from the start of his career,” Lyon told Cricket.com.au. “We’ve gone head-to-head many times in different conditions around the world. “I’ve got nothing but respect for Ashwin and the way he’s gone about it. I’ve definitely learned from him. “There’s an opportunity to learn from the people you play against, and without knowing it he’s probably been one of my biggest coaches in a way." The Aussies also added that he would like to sit down with Ashwin after their careers are over and reflect on their bowling. “Hopefully at the end of our career we’ll sit down and have a nice feed and a beer and talk about it,” he said. This led to multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter) where fans suggested the perfect place for the two stalwarts to have a meeting. Lyon also took part in the discussion and added that there was still some time to go before the two players bid goodbye to the game. “I’m sure the competition to pick the best venue for this catch up will be strong, but we both have a few good years left in us yet @ashwinravi99,” he wrote. In reply, Ashwin has now given a few options to Lyon where the two can have a chat in the future. He suggested a “home and away” arrangement. “We can do a home and away for the catch up too. Sydney - your choice. Chennai - Soup with Muthu and chaat at OSB ( West Mambalam ). Go well tomorrow and see u soon,” Ashwin wrote.
