R Ashwin created history on Saturday by taking the most five-wicket hauls for India in Test cricket history. Ashwin recorded his 36th fifer on the third day of the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala.
The 37-year-old broke spinner Anil Kumble’s record for most five-wicket hauls (35). Overall, he matched legendary New Zealander Richard Hadlee and now has only Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne ahead of him.
The Sri Lankan Muralitharan took 67 five-wicket hauls during his illustrious career while Aussie Warne finished his career with 37 five-wicket hauls.

Earlier, in the morning session of the fifth and final Test, James Anderson created history and reached milestone of 700 Test wickets. The 41-year-old became the first seamer to enter the 700 Test wickets club. Playing his 187th Test, Anderson got there with the wicket of Kuldeep Yadav. He, too, trails Muralitharan and Warne in the list of most wickets in Test matches.
